Leaf Cutting: An Easy Way To Grow Your Houseplants

Posted by Gary Antosh

by Kent Higgins

Leaf cuttings are a very popular method of plant propagation, and they can be made in several ways. Many house plants, including African Violets and Gloxinia, are propagated by cutting a leaf where it joins the stem, and planting this leaf in the starting soil mixture. Within just a few weeks, roots will start to grow at the point of the cut. Then, the new plant should be transplanted into a regular potting soil mixture.

With other plants, such as Sansevieria, with long pointed foliage, you should cut the leaves into four inch sections, and set these sections right end up in a starting soil mixture. From the lower cut, roots will soon form.

Rex Begonia, another popular houseplant, is propagated using still another way of leaf cuttings. With a razor, make cuts across the heavy veins on the leaf’s underside. Then place the leaf face up on the starting mixture. Use toothpicks or pins to make sure it contacts the soil, and new plants will soon form at the cut marks.

Growing your very own plants through leaf cuttings and other propagation methods is very rewarding. You can grow your own indoor garden for the price of just a little work, and reap tremendous rewards. You can grow many new plants from the leaves of your old plants. Plus, many people have found gardening to be a relaxing activity, a reward in and of itself.

When you are making leaf cuttings to increase your indoor garden, the plants from which you are cutting leaves are also benefiting from the trim. In order to keep your plants beautiful and healthy, you should pinch, prune, and cut back the plants when appropriate. Particularly in low light conditions, as found in many homes, plants tend to grow tall and leggy, with little foliage at the bottom of the plant. To make your plants full and even from the base to the top, you’ll need to cut them back to encourage growth in the right directions. Trim back any shoots that do not fit with the overall shape of the plant.

Particularly if you are a new gardener, the idea of cutting off healthy branches, leaves, and even flowers and how to care for your plants will make you nervous. However, these measures must be taken if you want the overall plant to be healthy and proportionate. Pinch off shoots that are not growing in the correct place, allowing your plant to spend its energy growing in the right directions. Even if this shoot has buds or flowers, it should be removed. By pruning your plant, you can reasonably control its growth. Although some plants will grow properly without help, like the African violet they requires exactly the right amount of sun, light, and water, among several other conditions. The vast majority of your houseplants would greatly benefit from pruning and cutting back, and you can use the leaves you’ve cut to grow new plants.

Can We Trust Reverse Osmosis To Create Safe Drinking Water?

by Peter Patterson

With so much interest in reverse osmosis, I’ll cover in detail what shortcomings and disadvantages of reverse osmosis for water treatment. So, the question many who have taken an interest in reverse osmosis have asked, “is reverse osmosis safe for drinking water?” My answer to that question is a resounding “no”. I will cover in detail what these shortcomings are in a moment, but I just want to say that the disadvantages of reverse osmosis outweigh the advantages.

Reverse osmosis is a process known for its use in industries for demineralizing water used by boilers. The process was used primarily to keep deposit build up inside the machines which can cause mechanical breakdowns and costly repairs. But it’s typically used for water treatment at large scale facilities.

Now you are probably wondering why I said it was not safe to drink water created from reverse osmosis but at the same time you may be wondering why the process is used for the treatment of water. Personally, I don’t know why this method continues to be used because technology has advanced for the purpose of making water much more safe for people to consume.

The disadvantages of reverse osmosis make the process quite unfit for the water treatment process. The main process is to demineralize water but not to remove contaminants that are at or below the molecular weight of the water that carries them.

Many chemicals and microscopic organisms are unable to be removed from the older reverse osmosis systems. And these contaminants are sent straight through the pipes to your house for you to consume. There are over 2,000 well-known cancer causing chemicals in the reservoir system and unfortunately, treatment facilities that use the older system are unable to remove the contaminants due to inadequate equipment.

So, now you understand why I tell me people that its unsafe to trust reverse osmosis to create safe drinking water. With many of the toxins and organisms flowing in the pipes in our homes, how can anyone justify that the water is perfectly safe. Sure, it’s better for consumption before reverse osmosis but that does not mean that the water is perfectly safe.

Now there are reverse osmosis models being offered strictly for home use. The disadvantages of these machines is that they waste water and it runs on electricity. At a rate of five gallons of water for every one gallon cleaned. With the system running strictly on electricity, owners will notice that their electricity bill have increased.

What alternatives are there? Well, for one, you will want a home water purification system that does the job that reverse osmosis fails to do. A multi-stage filtering system will help you rid the risk of these contaminations and a good purification system must have this filtering system in place.

The best units feature both an activated granular carbon and multimedia filter, which will remove threats brought by chlorine and other chemicals. It should also use a sub-micron filter which eliminates the dangerous biological elements from the water. An ion exchange unit will give you the added benefits of removing toxic heavy metals such as lead and replacing it with healthy minerals.

Now that you know that reverse osmosis is not safe for creating safe drink water, you have an idea of alternatives available that are safe.

Avoid The Common Pest On Your Rose Plant

Posted by Keith Markensen

by Keith Markensen

If you grow roses in your garden but are having problems keeping them healthy, insects may be responsible. If you do nothing to deter them, they can do a lot of damage. There are ten major rose enemies, which you should be able to identify them if you hope to evade them.

1. Aphids Aphids are the most frequent bug to feed on roses. Most commonly found in buds and shoots, high numbers of aphids will encourage mild growth and blacken the rose leaves. They can also reduce the size of the flowers, or even kill some buds. Aphids are mainly a problem in the spring and early summer. Ladybugs are the aphid’s natural enemy, but you can also use water spray or insecticidal soaps to remove the aphids.

2. Spider Mites Spider mites can cause your rose leaves to dry up and fall off. They are so tiny that you probably will not notice them on the leaves. They are usually found in dry, dusty conditions. To get rid of spider mites, reduce the dust near your plants and ensure that they are watered sufficiently.

3. Fuller Rose Beetles Fuller Rose Beetles will chew on your rose bushes’ flowers and leaves, giving them ragged edges. They eat during the night, and will hide on the underside of the leaves during the day. Pesticides do not usually kill them, so you’ll need to handpick them off your plants.

4. Thrips Thrips leave brown streaks on your rose flowers, especially those that are white or light colored. Thrips can easily move from one plant to another if your rose bushes are planted close together. The best way to get rid of them is to clip and dispose of any blooms that have been infected.

5. Caterpillars Several species of caterpillars enjoy feeding on rose leaves. Because this damage does not threaten the rose plant’s overall health, you should simply remove affected leaves or buds.

6. Rose Slugs Rose slugs are actually the larvae of sawflies, but they look like caterpillars because they have legs. They have many natural enemies, but you can also remove them by washing your rose bushes with a strong spray of water.

7. Leafcutter Bees Leafcutter bees make semicircular holes in the leaves of your rose bushes. Other than killing the bees, which are natural pollinators and therefore helpful for your garden, there is no effective way to stop their work on your rose bushes.

8. Rose Curculio In a pool garden ideas, the common problem is the Rose Curculio that usually affects yellow or white roses. They are about a quarter of an inch long, and punch holes in flowers and buds. The larvae feed on developing buds, making this pest quite destructive for your flowers. You can get rid of them by spraying your rose bushes with an insecticide.

9. Flat Headed Borers Flat headed borers cause your rose bushes to die back, and sometimes they can kill the entire plant. You need to remove anything that has been infested with this pest. Keep your plants healthy by not over pruning them, and ensuring that they receive enough water in order to have a good landscape design.

10. Scale Insects Scale insects are small grey bugs with scales. In a pool landscaping, the ideas The best way to get rid of them is to prune any affected canes, and use pesticides to keep them from infecting remaining canes.

Car Crash Skip Hire

Posted by Local Fishern

by Local Fishern

Skip Hire is the responsibility of the supplier to look after once it has been hired. Or so I was under the nave impression. it was the annual best vegetable growing competition in 3 months. I was looking forward to it greatly.

I had terrible luck last year. The very night before the comp, a fox came and nibbled on my radishes which had the potential to win it! The fox left the raid on the nearby road after realising he didn’t like the taste of my prized radishes allowing passing cars to squash them into slush. This was the day before the big comp!

I sought out the help of a skip hire company. I needed a skip hire to help me clean out the old soil, and lay fresh for mouth watering vegetables to grow. I wanted to win for sure this year, so I planned to do all the work myself, but needed to the skip hire companies help in disposing my waste!

the skip hire company told me I would need to place the skip on the road, as my garden was small. This would require a permit and more costage, but it didn’t bother me, the winning was all that mattered.

I soon had my skip filled halfway. I was very excited, the work was coming along nicely. I figured I may need another skip hire soon. In my excitement and anxiety, one night I forgot to warn other drivers by placing cones and lights around the skip, that there was indeed a giant skip in the road.

I awoke at 1.53AM to a huge bang; I thought a plane had fallen out of the sky. It was only a top of the range Audi, slam dunking into my skip outside! I rushed out to help, dialling the police en route. The driver was still alive! Praise the lord! The superb design of the Audi had kicked in with various gadgets, to save from exactly this kind of thing.

The police and ambulance arrived and took him away. The next morning I got on the phone to the skip hire company, they informed me that it was responsibility to ensure the safety of road users. They s the skip hire company had done their bit, by providing me with the skip, the permit and the necessary equipment needed to warn drivers at night.

So just to prove my bad luck, not only did I not win the competition, but was left with a huge repair bill, and a compensation claim from a dazed business man. Drat.

A Trip To Spain Calls For A Bullfight

Posted by Clinton Maxwell

by Clinton Maxwell

If you are planning a trip to the Costa Del Sol of Spain, it helps to know what you are going to see. Because Malaga is the capital of the Malaga province there, you will probably spend a lot of time there. Here is a helpful Malaga city overview for you to get the most out of your visit.

You will probably reach Malaga, Andalucia’s second largest city, by the airport. It is a very convenient gateway to the rest of Europe and many discount flights are available. It is easy to arrange for ground transportation to begin your stay.

One reason people like to visit Malaga is for its museums. By far, the most famous resident of Malaga was Pablo Picasso. You can see the home where this famous artist was born and a great museum devoted to his works.

If your artistic tastes run to the more traditional, you can visit two museums at Alcazaba Castle: There is an archeological museum where you can see ancient Greek and Gothic pieces and even a Roman theater. You can also visit the Museo de la Ceramica, which is devoted to ancient and modern pottery. Elsewhere in town are the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions and the city museum, both of which offer many hours of enjoyment.

In addition to museums, Malaga has many other interesting places to visit. Among these is the cathedral, which dominates the city as it stands on the former site of a mosque. Work on the cathedral began in 1528 and its south tower is not finished even today. Because work on the cathedral stopped and started again and again (largely due to war and to shortage of funds), you will enjoy seeing the mix of architectural styles in this beautiful structure.

All this culture is bound to make you hungry. You won’t lack for good food here: The region is renowned for its wine and its fresh seafood. Sample the delicious cuisine at any of a number of places, from small stands, to elegant restaurants and nightclubs. Why not visit the marketplace and create your own picnic lunch in this charming town? You can eat it while watching ships in the harbor.

There are many fun activities to enjoy here, from swimming to golf to hiking to biking. But what would a trip to Spain be without a bullfight? You can see this traditional sport right here in Malaga.

As you can see, there is so much to do in this corner of Spain, you might forget to just kick back and enjoy the beach. It would be a shame to miss it, but remember: You can always come back. Malaga and its delights will be waiting for you to return.

Adding Visual Interest To Your Garden

Posted by Gary Antosh

by Keith Markensen

Landscape lighting, often utilitarian, is planned to blend unnoticed into the garden. It is the illumination, not the fixture, which should be apparent. In effect, it is accent lighting for the outside of your home.

The point of landscape lighting is to embellish the features of the exterior surroundings, both natural or manmade, adding a beautiful and dramatic after-dark element. Good outside lighting can make your home a beautiful star in the neighborhood.

Low-voltage outdoor lighting setups are quite popular today. These systems usually are purchased complete with the transformer. Landscape lighting is both practical and beautiful. It can improve safety and security, so that people can move around your home safely after dark.

Particularly for illuminating water features, which can be dangerous after sunset, and for highlighting footpaths and stairs, landscape lighting is a practical addition to your home. It will improve the value of your property, and is safer to use than normal main lighting. In addition, landscape lighting can beautify your home, bringing bushes and plants to life.

Solar powered, wireless lights are especially good choices for landscape lighting. These light store solar energy captured during the day, and then, when it becomes dark enough, a sensor turns on the exterior lighting automatically.

However, place them carefully, as they must be in an area which receives plenty of sunlight during the day. Solar powered systems do not require any wiring or transformers, which can be costly. This system is also easier to install, because it does not require digging under pathways or other features to run wires. Because manufacturing techniques for this new technology are improving, costs are falling, making solar lighting a very popular choice for garden lighting.

Solar lighting is available for driveway lights, accent lights, lanterns, fountains, and spotlights, among other choices. They can easily be installed in many garden locations, as long as the location receives enough sun. However, some users feel that this lighting is not efficient, because it gives a small amount of light, and becomes dimmer as the stored solar energy runs out during the night. Despite this, most of today’s solar lighting gives off a bright light, and can be a very effective choice. Solar lighting has been gaining in popularity recently.

There are many designs for landscape lighting, but you should think ahead of time when preparing your landscape. For example, you should think about setting up empty conduit for future landscape lighting, or decide on places for the installation of fixtures and footings. When planning your landscape, be sure to account for enough fixtures to provide the level of light you desire.

In the natural landscape, most lighting is normally supplied by the sun. As a result, dusk can dramatically alter the appearance of your landscape even if you use led solar lights. Landscape lighting can restore much of the beauty that is lost in the dark. You can choose landscaping lights for many moods, which can be changed by the intensity or color of the light, as well as the style of fixture you select. Keep in mind that you can always add lighting with holiday lights or solar fixtures tucked around your flowerbeds.

To run your lights, you can utilize timers or sensors. This way, you will avoid wasting power by running your lights during the day, and you will not forget to turn them on.

If only I read this before I shelled out for my 1080p lcd tv.

Not a second thought would have been ventured if I had known of the disharmony this ill performing junk product was going to cause my family.. 1080p lcd tv from a know manufacturer with w reputation for high quality and maket adoption was my main constraint. Exacting consumer requirements command high performance products to garner full enjoyment for the buyers and it is here that the major brands have stepped up to the plate.

A 1080p lcd tv arent something You cant just knock together in your back shed. Continual product innovation has clearly resulted from considerable investment to maintain their products at the forefront of the market. Luckily these guys just turn out sensational products for all to use.

Considerable variety and ingenuity is a hallmark of the brands that include Samsung Sharp Toshiba Panasonic LG to name a few. A product offering is at hand from Samsung Sharp Toshiba Panasonic LG who specialise in digital tvs. Samsung Sharp Toshiba Panasonic LG continually feature in golf design excellence awards for quality innovation and manufacturing ability.

Phenomenal response to these products since the release of 1080p lcd tv. One for me to savour until the secret gets out in the family and I end up with the old banger again. The finish was superb and the array of color selection meant no trouble getting something to fit.

All 1080p lcd tv have a liquid crystal inner conduction layer constrained between puter glass constraints. Specific modulation of electrical charge throught the crystal inner layer renders differing clour results. Producing the glass layers wwith the liquid crystal centre is a cheaper method of manufacture whichis passedon to the consumer.

My 1080p lcd tv complimented my living room surrounds so well that I have inadvertently spent much more time catching up on old movies. This was certainly not a regrettable product purchase and the picture quality and viewing performance is simply stunning. I now feel a little silly not buying this before bacause of technology platform indecision.

Pixel abundance results in a much higher definiton picture with LCD technology. The useful viewing life of LCD televisions will mean you will probably get a new set before you wear this one out but the power savings will be realised right now. 1080p lcd tv save you the misfortune of screen burn and will also benefit your back when moving them due to their lighter weight.

Ensure your product assessment is reasonable and researched before you purchase to ensure you dont pay too much fo features you dont want. Failure to abide by this golden rule will almost certainly sour your results. You wont be left with a preverbial boat anchor with the technology and improved performance encompassed in the 1080p lcd tv.

I know its hard to spot a rogue when you buy your tv but do your research before you dive in. Dont get caught in the scams if the tv deal is too good then there is probably a good reason. hugetvsale.com asiaelectronics.asia and hugetvsale.com frequently offer cheap tvs and they have delivered every time. 1080p lcd tv.

Kids Rugs - Educational and Fun

Posted by Stu Foster

by Stu Foster

Kids have an amazing ability to entertain themselves; their imagination is free thinking at an early age and they know how to use it to great effect in play and other creative environments. An empty space to you and i can become a magical kingdom in a child’s mind. A kid’s bedroom can and should also nurture their imagination. This article will explain how through the use of something as simple as a rug, you can positively impact on a child’s natural creativity.

A Break From Tradition

Rugs are predominantly used as a design feature but there are also rugs available to buy that are designed especially for children. These rugs are not purely decorative but help to nurture a child’s in-built creativity or in the case of the younger child, help explain basic fundamental concepts of color and shape for example.

Many kid’s rugs are designed to cater to a certain grade level or gender. Others are specifically constructed to help parents (and even grade school teachers) play learning games with their children. For example, some rugs display maps of the solar system or the world. Others show a variety of animals to identify. In each case, the vibrant colors and loose designs are particularly alluring to children.

A Simple Rug To Us - A Whole World To A Child

Most children need only a minor catalyst to propel their imagination. For example, a mere sandbox can easily turn into a fictional world into which a child immerses himself. Hundreds of kids rugs can turn a child’s bedroom into a perpetual playground. Some offer dozens of intertwining streets and buildings around which a child can navigate imaginary cars. Other rugs are designed like hopscotch, allowing a child to learn while playing. Still others are created around various sports. For example, you can purchase kids rugs that display an entire football field or baseball diamond. These rugs are created to provide children with an outlet for their creativity.

Broadening The Imagination

Buying your child a rug for their bedroom will help to expand their imagination and creativity, a truly useful gift they will benefit from for the rest of their life. Rugs can enhance playtime or even teach basic maths, science, geography and other concepts to them at an early age through a fun medium. Kids love to play on the floor, a rug really is the perfect accessory! If your child is lucky enough to benefit from a large bedroom or has the use of multiple rooms in the home, don’t just stop at one rug, consider buying multiple rugs. Each and every one will play its part in the successful development of your child.
